SafeVet is a processing plant for Categories 1 and 2, where we process fallen animals and condemned material. These are by-products that are hazardous to human and animal health, so its role is primarily maintaining veterinary health and safety. Products processed within this plant are used as energy sources.
SafeVet receives dead animals, which are then processed according to the method prescribed by the EU. Within this facility, we perform the identification of dead animals, removal of markings, decapitation of dead animals, appropriate handling and storage of samples in the refrigerated area, logistical support to the authorized veterinarian who performs sampling and have internal expert supervision of all necessary procedures. The products obtained by processing Category 1 and 2 by-products are meat and bone meal and technical fat. Both products are used as energy sources. The main partners are farms, slaughterhouses and all business and private entities that hold and grow animals.
SafeVet is of great importance for scientific institutions such as the Veterinary Institute and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine conducts its research within our facilities. This type of cooperation is very important as it results in a plan of measures which are to be implemented in the occurrence of some infectious diseases, as well as the rapid detection of such diseases. Cooperation with the Veterinary Institute in cattle sampling, and the traceability of by-products through a special application developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, does not allow improvisation. We intend to control the potential danger, eradicate and take all necessary steps to combat contamination and protect human and animal health and environment. Without research, there would be no science, and thus no progress, so by providing our own space to scientific institutions, we contribute to the development of science in Croatia and consequently to improved health standards.
